Best All Terrain Tires For 20 Inch Rims

A lot of trucks today come factory with a 20 inch rim and in this article I will be talking about the best all terrain tires for 20 inch rims. Lets face it, they have a ton of options for all terrain tires and the twenty inch rim is so common now a days, that every manufacture is making tires to fit them. An all terrain otherwise known as an AT is very common on most trucks and Wranglers. These tires usually come factory on most 4×4 truck models. In this little buyers guide I will help you find all available options to replace your all terrain’s and hopefully get you into a tire you like. Most of our customers are after a smooth sounding road noise when they pick the all terrain over the mud terrain. Plus it gives the vehicle that aggressive look. I would like to cover the tires most commonly used for replacement on a factory 2o inch rims. They make this tires as big as a 35 inch, but that would be for a truck lifted 6 inches. I will stick to the stock truck tire size, or the ones that will fit a stock truck or jeep comfortably.  Enough with the small talk, lets check out some all terrains!

Best all terrain tires for 20 inch rims overview

1. BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 Radial Tire

Number one on the list for me is the BFGoodrich, you know as well as everyone else that these guys are number one when it comes to an all terrain tire for your 20 inch rims. They have a ton of technology in this tire and that is why they are the best in the tire game. CoreGuard technology gives the tire a proven split and bruise resistant side wall and thicker rubber shoulder to improve the grip points. They have a special formatted rubber to help pkeep the tire together and reduce the chances of chips or tears in the rubber. This tire is truly the best for traction and durability, I mean there is a reason it is a race proven tire for the Baja races. All these cool bells and whistles and fancy tire technology come with a price, and at the top of the price point, these guys are worth it. Everyone that we have come into the shop looking to keep their truck factory looking with a quality tire, always turn to these.

2. Nitto Terra Grappler G2 All-Terrain Light Truck Radial Tires

This is a popular up and coming second choice when it comes to All-terrain tires around the shop. The Terra Grappler G2 is Nitto’s next generation tire for the street and off road use. They have a specially formatted tread patten to lock the treads together and increase the edge rigidity, and the shoulder lugs help it to lock in when in off road trials. Highway noise will be pretty much non existent with these because of the way the tread arrangement is.  All in all this is a very good contender to the BFG, but you are saving money!

3. Radar Tires Renegade A/T5 All-Terrain Radial Tire – 265/50R20

Next I am jumping to the best deal out of all the all terrain tires out there, this Radar tire is priced much cheaper than the two best sellers. Being cheap, doesn’t mean this isn’t the best all terrain tires for 20 inch rims. They still have a cool tread design, they have a “stone ejector technology” that prevents the tires from getting rock and debris stuck inside the tread. So that means you wont have that pesky annoying rock click noise like you do with driving around a mud terrain tire with a piece of gravel stuck in it. It has wide center blocks that in the center of tire for a even wear all terrain. They also have a matching 3 ply construction that delivers increased stability and resistance to punctures. I don’t think you will go wrong if you go with this all terrain for your 20 inch wheels.

4. Falken Wildpeak AT3W All Terrain Radial Tire – 275/55R20

Next up is prolly the best in between option when you want a middle ground for a tire that will work great on a 20 inch wheel. These things look very high end, but for a better price than the BFG. They have this heat diffuser technology in the lower sidewall that dissipates heat to protect the internal tire, which is kinda cool. That helps when towing to help keep the truck stable when you are towing and not over loading your tires. These have 3D Canyon sipe technology interlocks the shoulders to resist wear from high torque as well as providing additional handling. Also has a crazy sidewall technology to protect from cuts and tears from sharp rocks and anything else you might run over.  I truly think this is a better choice than the hankook for the same price. So I will leave the hankook off this review.

However, there are elements of quality to be aware of as well. Not all tires were created equal, so to speak. Pay attention to customer reviews, and you can even look up specific tires online to see what professionals have to say. If you go through the process this way, you’re much more likely to be happy with the end result.

Tips on Changing a Tire

We’re not talking about simply switching out your wheel for a spare or a replacement. No, instead we’re discussing the process of attaching a new tire to a wheel. It’s not something one can easily accomplish at home. There are some specific tools needed, as well as some specific knowledge on how the process works. Before attempting this at home, you’ll obviously need to get your hands on the tool, but you should also make sure to do plenty of research on the process. If you want everything done correctly, the best thing you can do is take your wheel and tire to a professional. The process isn’t too expensive, and you could save a lot of money by avoiding some costly mistakes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How often am I supposed to change the tires on my truck?

A: When it comes to replacing tires, it is more a matter of how many miles they’ve seen as opposed to how long you’ve been using them, though time can have a factor as well. The average set of tires will last you between 25,000 and 50,000 miles, but it’s important to watch out for the signs that indicate it’s time to get them changed or at the very least rotated.

Q: What are the signs that I should replace my tires?

A: First and foremost, watch out for bald tires. Those can be very dangerous, and will also reduce fuel efficiency. If you notice your car is rumbling and it doesn’t seem to be internal, that could be a sign for new tires. Generally, you will be able to tell when you need new tires when your current ones start to look worn down.
