Nevada does not require a statewide safety inspection for most passenger vehicles and pickup trucks. However, some counties do require emissions testing before registration can be completed. Emissions testing is generally required in Clark County, including Las Vegas and Henderson, and in Washoe County, including Reno and Sparks. Most gasoline-powered vehicles from model year 1968 and newer, along with many diesel trucks up to 14,000 pounds GVWR, must be tested before registration.

Before purchasing a lifted truck in Nevada, make sure any modifications do not interfere with the truck’s emissions equipment, lighting, or overall safety.

Lifted Truck Regulations in Nevada

Nevada allows lifted trucks, but there are state rules that apply to vehicle height, lighting, and overall safety. Important Nevada lifted truck rules include:

▪ Nevada does not currently limit suspension lift height, frame height, or bumper height.
▪ The lowest part of the original body may not exceed:
28 inches for trucks under 4,501 lbs GVWR
30 inches for trucks 4,501–7,500 lbs GVWR
32 inches for trucks 7,501–10,000 lbs GVWR
▪ Headlights must be mounted between 24 and 54 inches from the ground.
▪ Tail lights must be between 15 and 72 inches from the ground.
▪ Overall vehicle height may not exceed 14 feet.
▪ Tires and fenders must remain safe and not create a hazard.
